Abstract

In this paper, we propose an algorithm that improves the dynamic synchrophasor and frequency estimation in the presence of harmonics. The proposed algorithm iteratively estimates harmonics parameters that are close to the fundamental component. The estimated parameters are used for reconstruction of the positive image of the fundamental component and compensation for their effect on the dynamic phasor, frequency, and ROCOF estimation. The proposed approach provides a very accurate frequency estimation over a wide frequency range, without a significant increase in the computational burden. Simulation results confirm that the proposed algorithm outperforms the comparison algorithms in various scenarios defined by the IEEE synchrophasor standard.
