Abstract
The synonyms 'highly conducting solid electrolytes', 'fast ionic conductors' and 'superionic conductors' describe ionic crystals in which one ionic species is highly mobile, while the others form a well defined crystal lattice. During the last decade scientific and general interest in this class of substances has grown consistently, and has been concerned with both the physical understanding of these systems and their diverse technological applications.
