Abstract Two-body motion with time-dependent coupling is discussed for two cases: coupling varying linearly or inverse linearly with time. The inverse linear motion can be treated rigorously using a transformation due to Meshcherskii. For linear change approximate solutions can be obtained and are compared with direct numerical calculations by Boersma. This comparison shows that the approximate solution remains valid up to .6. The first departures from adiabatic invariance are briefly discussed using these analytic solutions.
