Abstract
Herein, we report for the very first time dyeing of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (r-PET) electrospun nanofibers from waste bottles using two different disperse dyes i.e. C.I Disperse Blue 56 (DB-56) and C.I Disperse Red 167:1 (DR 167:1). Since PET exhibit greater mechanical strength and is abundant in occurrence, therefore it was selected for dyeing purpose. The thermodynamic, standard affinities and kinetic parameters were also evaluated for the very first time. The dyeing process was found endothermic in nature based on positive values of enthalpy. The standard affinity and diffusion coefficient of DB-56 towards r-PET were found greater than DR-167:1. The proposed r-PET nanofibers offer many advantages such as excellent color fastness, good mechanical strength, low processing temperature and minimum dyeing time compared to other conventional nanofibers.
