Abstract
This article explores within a psychoanalytic framework how gender identity is transformed in the love relationship as represented in Le Ravissement de Lol V.Stein and L'Amant by Marguerite Duras and Colette's Chéri and La Fin de Chéri , and questions through these texts whether it is possible to rethink the terms of this relationship so that love no longer constitutes a major threat to subjectivity.
