Abstract

The article discusses W.S. Reymont’s novel Vampire as a modern esoteric text, focusing mainlyon the motif of the double (Doppelgänger). References to theosophical interpretative tropes shedlight not only on Reymont’s interest in esotericism, but also on its practical application in diagnosingthe modern subject. Reymont’s characters suffer as a result of the vagueness and elusiveness of theirown selves, which is refl ected in the fi gure of the double.
