Abstract

Some ideas to improve the resolution of fast neutron spectrometers are given. If part of the initial neutron energy is deposited in a recoil proton counter and the remaining energy of the scattered neutron is measured by time-of-flight, the resolution will be vastly improved by recording the energies simultaneously. Background effects caused by non n-p scattering events will be easily eliminated by the kinematic relations.
