Abstract
Before the invention and successful implementation of the towed streamer in the late 1940s, the ocean‐bottom cable (OBC) method, and variations thereof, represented our only means for acquiring seismic data in marine areas. The marine streamer facilitated more rapid acquisition of 2-D data. Its widespread adoption relegated OBC to shallow waters where streamers could not be towed.
