Abstract

Path independent integral J in Rice's theory is expressible as the rate of decrease of strain potential energy P with respect to crack length. The dual integral I is path independent, and is expressible as the rate of decrease of potential energy Q for stress field. Approximate upper and lower bounds of integrals are obtained by variational principles.
