Abstract

Frequency-scanning antenna has been extensively explored, but it is very challenging to achieve frequency-scanning on two frequency bands simultaneously. Here we present a design scheme of a novel dual-frequency-scanning broadband antenna by utilizing Z-shape spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) and circular patch arrays. The Z-shape SSPPs line allows slow-wave transmission that coupled with patch arrays for the first frequency-scanning at low frequency range, while it also generates fast-wave radiation for another frequency-scanning at high frequency range. We demonstrate the fabricated antenna offers large-angle dual-frequency-scanning from −21.5° to 43.1° within 2.8–7.3 GHz, and −47.3° to 22.5° within 13.7–27.4 GHz, respectively.
