Abstract

The emission yields of secondary ions Zr +, ZrO + in Zr—0 solid solutions, bombarded with Ar +, were plotted as a function of the oxygen content. The ionic ratio ZrO +/Zr + could be correlated to the hardness of the Zr—O solution but does not vary linearly with C O/C zr. For samples bombarded with heavy ions TaF + 3, sputtering and ionization yields of the different species make uniform: the Z rO +/Zr + ratio varies linearly with C o / C zr . Diffusion gradients in oxidized Zr single crystals determined by SIMS are consistent with profiles obtained by nuclear microanalysis.
