Abstract

Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are most encouraged motor in automotive industry as traction motor in Electric Vehicles (EVs). Increasing penetration of EVs in the market has led to design and development of BLDC motors by different researchers to further improve its performance. Validating the effectiveness of the designed motor requires characterization of motor using Motor Testing Equipment. In this paper, a dSPACE based BLDC Motor Testing Platform with emulated dynamometer is proposed by employing dSPACE platform for real time acquisition of BLDC motor data. The systematic design guidelines for developing dSPACE based Motor Testing Platform, calibration of required measuring instruments, data acquisition using dSPACE console and data processing using MATLAB/Simulink to characterize the BLDC motor performance are presented as well. Finally, characterization of designed BLDC motor for EV application were incorporated to validate the efficacy of proposed motor testing platform.
