Abstract

SUMMARYIn 21 herbaceous species of angiosperm 2C values, duration of the cell cycle and S phase and increase in protein and dry mass contents during interphase were determined. The following correlations among the studied cell cycle parameters were found: 2C DNA content and dry mass and protein contents in G1 phase (p<0.001), 2C DNA content and cell cycle duration (p = 0.05), and protein content increase during interphase and the duration of the cell cycle (p = 0.05–0.01). No correlation between 2C DNA contents and S phase duration was found. For 12 species, a correlation (p = 0.01) between dry mass increase in interphase and cell cycle duration was observed. It is suggested that besides 2C DNA content, the dynamics of the protein and dry mass increases during interphase may be one of the factors determining the cell cycle duration.
