•Inhalation drug therapy is one of the most popular ways to deliver medication locally to the lungs. •There are many inhalation devices available including metered dose inhalers; dry powder inhalers; nebulizers; and, more recently, soft mist inhalers. •Advances in inhalation devices have enhanced drug delivery and improved adherence.
