Abstract

An improved vehicle-mounted sprayer, the Ulvamast Mark II, is described. The droplet size spectra produced by different liquids sprayed through the X15 stacked spinning-disc atomizer used on the sprayer were measured using a Malvern laser particle-size analyser. An empirical model was developed to predict the volume median diameter (VMD) of the spray within given ranges of atomizer rotation rate, liquid flow rate and liquid physical properties. The model showed general agreement with previous models of rotary disc atomization.
