Abstract

With our Society's move toward evaluating road lighting in terms of pavement brightness, it is appropriate to use a presentation of this data from the perspective of what the driver sees. Three-dimensional projection techniques applied to the main elements of a roadway lighting system present a scene that represents the driver's viewpoint. Changes in driver position or changes of lighting system geometry are readily portrayed using the “driver's view.” Showing the resultant pavement luminance in the scene with contributing elements properly spaced around it is a useful tool for system analysis.
