Drell-Yan production of intermediate vector bosons

Abstract

Cross sections for Drell-Yan production of dimuons via Z 0 and single muons via W ± in pp, pp , π + p and π − p reactions are computed. Asymptotically a linear rise with log s is predicted. Should the order of magnitude of the estimates of the pion's quark distribution be confirmed, the π −p reaction may be of special interest in the experimental search for the neutral vector boson.
