Abstract

The production of intermediate vector bosons is one of the most interesting subjects at the present t ime-bo th experimentally and theoretically. An experimental observation has been reported recently (1). A number of papers (2) have been published in the past, in which different reactions for the production of these particles are discussed. Much at tention has been paid to photon-production, because the magnetic moments of W + and Wcan be determined in these processes. However, the photoproduction of W 9 off protons (~) has caused some complications, since problems concerning the proton structure have to be taken into account. We consider in this short note a new possibil i ty W 9 production in photon-electron processes. The hard y-rays, which are necessary for the occurrence of these processes, can be obtained from the bremsstrahlung of a proton beam in the ep colliding machine. The proposed 35 GeV + 800 GeV el) Collider (HERA) at DESY (4) is particularly suitable for this purpose. The centre-of-mass energy which can be obtained in this machine is l l .104 GeV.
