Abstract
Aristotle, though having a similar view of virtue, believed the rational mind shut off during sleep. [...]dreams had no relation to virtue or knowledge. First Neil summarizes the previous chapters, then expands the conversation with a quick look at the reception of the Life of Antony and dream-related material (principally sexual dreams and nocturnal emission) in Cassian and the desert fathers. [...]this volume makes the case for a positive late antique Christian view of sleep and dreaming.
