Abstract

It is proved that the conventional on-shell renormalization leads to a drastic violation of the initial normalization condition in both nonrelativistic and relativistic QED. Thus, in the case of the U-matrix and spectral line-shape renormalizations (where, because of the mentioned normalization violation, no conventional renormalization procedure can be used), the absolute necessity for the application of the author's recently developed new consistent, complete renormalization method is pointed out.
