Abstract

Fluorescent lifetimes of thioxanthone (TX) and 3-carboxyethyl-7-methyl thioxanthone (ETX) were measured in several hydroxylic and non-hydroxylic solvents at room temperature. As reported previously by Dalton and Montgomery for TX in hydroxylic solvents, both φ F and τ F increase with solvent polarity. However, TX and ETX surprisingly satisfy the same linear relationship between φ F and τ F over a large range of solvent polarity from butyl acetate to glycol.
