Abstract

The article refers to the issue of personal educational experiences of the people born in the Free City of Gdańsk. It describes what and how those people were learning in their homes at the time, what was perceived to be a main focus of learning and what part the parents’ support and presence played in the children’s education. The interlocutors emphasise in the quoted statements that their educational process was strongly influenced by the changing political and economic conditions, as well as by their casual life experience. In the article one can also find some information about the difficulties the people struggled while learning; it also shows the effects of education meant as a lifelong process. The author of the article highlights that learning is not possible in the circumstances of isolation, as it usually requires the support from an accompanying Significant Other.
