Abstract

The author received his education in law at Harvard University (LL.B.; Yale J.S.D.). He was Assistant Professor of Law in Harvard Law School, 1929-1932; Professor of Civil and Latin-American Law in Louisiana State University Law School, 1935-1937; Exchange Professor, University of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, 1941; Visiting Professor of Law, Catholic University of America, since 1944. He is author of Boundaries, Possessions and Conflicts, South America (1938); Central and North America (1941); Case Books: Conflict of Laws; Civil Law. The article which follows was delivered as the Magister's address before the Riccobono Seminar of Roman Law at Washington, D. C., on May 24, 1948.-EDITOR.
