Abstract

In this paper, a novel magnetic carrier has been developed based on silica and gadolinium composite. The synthesized carrier has porous structure and can be simply modified with different functional groups using silane coupling agents. The formation of this novel carrier was confirmed by different analytical methods including FT-IR, X-ray powder diffraction, TEM microscopy, Single point BET, Thermal analysis, EDAX, and elemental analysis. The synthesized carrier was applied for doxorubicin delivery as a common anti-cancer drug. The results showed high drug uptake and controlled release using this carrier. Last but not least, this carrier has higher release rate in acidic solutions in comparison to neutral pH which is beneficial for cancer therapy since the cancer cells are slightly acidic.
