Abstract
A study of the conditions for Chromatographie analysis of a mixture of oxygen and argon led to the choice of a column of 5 Å molecular sieves, thermostated at — 78° C (with a resolution factor R = 1.85). The method was then used for the analysis of traces of these gases in helium, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. Thanks to techniques of concentration and of permuting columns, it was possible to analyse quantities of the order of 1 vpm of oxygen or argon in helium and carbon monoxide and 50 to 80 vpm in nitrogen, even in the presence of other normal impurities (nitrogen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, etc.).
