Abstract
In the current issue of Biological Psychiatry, Ames et al. (1) present a case-control study examining the relationship between neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring and prenatal exposure to maternal psychiatric conditions with and without selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) use. Three study groups of children were compared: a group with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a group with other developmental disorder or delay (DD), and the general population. Depression represented the majority of maternal psychiatric diagnoses.
