Abstract

Summary
During the ambulance drivers' dispute of November 1989 to April 1990 it became necessary to rehabilitate primary amputees in the domiciliary setting. This article looks at this period and the following two months and concludes that an inadequate transport system precludes effective and efficient out-patient rehabilitation of amputees. Domiciliary walking training is a viable alternative when carried out by a physiotherapist with a special interest in amputees and when an in-patient stay is not possible.
