Abstract

The paper is devoted to study of domain structure and birefringent properties of [(CH3)2CHNH3]4Cd3Cl10:Cu (IPACCC) crystals in the region of their high temperature phase transitions. On the basis of investigations of the optical birefringence temperature increments there were detected the phase transitions at T1 = 359 K and T2 = 293 K (in a heating run). On the basis of the Landau theory analysis the latter transition was related to the first order close to the second order one. Using AFM the domains in the ferroelastoelectric phase lying below T2 were visualized for the first time. It was found that the symmetry of phases in IPACCC is the same as in initial IPACC crystal without copper adding, although both high temperature phase transitions were found to be a little shifted by temperature.
