Abstract

AbstractThis paper looks at different possible measures of progress and argues that we currently have no objective measures which are appropriate for comparing the progress of entire fields. I look at several possible measures, including one measure suggested by Chalmers: increased agreement on correct answers to the big questions in that field. Regarding the question that the title of this paper asks, I think we should remain agnostic; we are not currently able to say whether philosophy makes less progress than other academic fields.
