Abstract

A 49-year-old White woman presented with a left iris lesion which had been present for more than 10 years (Fig A). Its discrete tapioca appearance mandated observation as a presumed slightly suspicious nevus. After 2 years, growth was documented, making the presumptive diagnosis of circumscribed tapioca iris melanoma (Fig B). Intraocular pressure and gonioscopy remained normal, and there was no visible seeding on the iris surface. The tumor was treated with ruthenium plaque brachytherapy. Tapioca iris melanoma is rare and has a nodular amelanotic surface.
