Abstract
Abstract The contribution to the deuteron effective local optical potential arising from coupling to triton and helion channels has been evaluated by performing finite-range coupled reaction channel calculations with the pickup channels at sum rule strength. The effective local polarization potential is evaluated by inversion of the CRC S -matrix elements. The effect is very large, with indications of underlying l -dependence. The significance of these large contributions will be discussed.
