Abstract

In their paper, Riandini et al. use the provocative catchphrase “war on diabetes”, which was introduced by the government of Singapore in 2016 to emphasise the efforts made to improve the increasing prevalence of diabetes in Asian populations.1 At first glance, this colloquial wording may appear rather martial and the academic voice of restraint in all of us would probably advocate an alternative. However, on closer consideration, there are many similarities. Wars have always been incredibly costly and caused thousands of limbs and lives.
