Abstract

The innovative design features and energy-saving HVAC systems of the Norris Cotton office building in New Hampshire, USA, have been much discussed. But how comfortable or appealing have they proved to be to people who work there? The answers, discussed here by researchers at the US National Bureau of Standards' Center for Building Technology, suggest that ‘efficient’ lighting, minimal glazed areas and sophisticated ventilation control can sometimes leave much to be desired.
