Abstract
Resumo Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar parte da trajetória intelectual do pesquisador e folclorista paraense Vicente Salles (1931-2013), nos estudos sobre o folclore. Examina-se como surgiu e se intensificou o interesse de Salles pelo folclore amazônico (em especial, o paraense), as suas primeiras pesquisas de campo, como o autor interpretou os conceitos de folclore e de cultura popular e a presença do folclore em algumas de suas principais obras.
