Abstract

Language used to describe the role of the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) is being used haphazardly within both education and practice settings and has led to misunderstanding. The purpose of this article is to clarify the intended role of the DNP-prepared nurse and dispel misconceptions related to educational preparation and praxis so that the rigor and contribution of those with the DNP degree is respected.
