Abstract

Abstract DNA fingerprints and phylogenetic relationships were established for ten Carica papaya L. genotypes based on RAPD markers. The plant materials included seven parents from the Solo and Formosa groups and three hybrids from the cross between these two groups. Some genotypes could be fingerprinted by the presence or absence alone of some bands, but in general the DNA fingerprint could only be obtained by a set of RAPD markers. The phylogenetic analyses showed greater similarity among the parents of each group and the intermediary position of the hybrids, as expected.
