Abstract
Discrete multitone (DMT) is a viable candidate for modulation format in step index polymere optical fibers (SI POFs). In this letter, it is shown that the performance of the DMT system in SI POF can be considerably improved by using a time-domain impulse response shortening equalizer. A new method of calculating the equalizer's coefficients, which employs minimax optimization, is formulated. The proposed method gives similar or even slightly better results than the eigen filter method used as reference. Increase of bit rate by 7.1 (9.5)% in 50 (100) m SI POF is experimentally confirmed using the minimax method.
