Abstract

This study, examined the agricultural and technological characteristics of maize varieties grown as main crop and second crop, was carried out in the field of research and application of GAP International Agricultural Research and Educational Center in Diyarbakır in 2014 and 2015 seasons, according to randomized complete block experimantal design, with three replications. 15 grain maize varieties provided from different seed organizations, compatible with the Southeastern Anatolia Region climatic conditions, having different vegetation period were used as material. The correlations between grain yield and all the characteristics studied were first analyzed by correlation and then the characters of significance were subjected to Biplot analysis. It was determined that the grain yields changed from 127.87 (Ada 95.16) to 158.02 kg ha -1 (PR31D24) , average 138.88 kg ha -1 in main crop. Grain yields in the second crop was determined from 108.22 (Breaker) to 150.23 kg ha -1 (Katone) , and the average 126.60 kg ha -1 . According to biplot analysis, it was found that PR31D24, SyRadioso and P.31G98 varieties were located in the same region in terms of grain yield, chlorophyll content, hectoliter weight and 1000 grain weight, and it was determined a positive relationship among them. Sakarya, Ada 334, Katone, Ada 95.16 and Breaker varieties were found in a different plot in terms of plant height, tasseling periods , grain moisture ratio at harvest, crude protein ratio and starch ratio, and it was determined that there was a positive relationship among them. There was no positive correlation between crude oil ratio and crude protein ratio and other properties. It was determined that the AS 71 and Katone varieties located in the center showed values close to the mean of the experiment in all properties.
