Abstract

Seaweeds are found in the coastal area region with about 0.01% permeability of sunlight. The intertidal region of high and low tides is the areas where they grow. Every region has different variety of seaweeds (macroalgae) depending upon the environmental factors involved. Seaweeds are under threat in developing countries, where they are being disturbed by a variety of human activities. Mumbai being an industrial region, the concern of algal destruction makes it necessary to understand the taxonomy and species diversity in order to maintain the marine environment. Mumbai region shows great diversity of Marine algae; a total of 51 species were recorded in the area. Most of the species were recorded from rocky intertidal area of Colaba and Madh.
