Abstract
Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is the most important fruit crop grown extensively in India. Although a seasonal fruit, it is considered as the most popular fruit and is well known for its high demand in domestic and export markets. Peel is considered as the major waste of mango-processing industry. However, it has been proved that the mango peel is one of the richest by-products that could be used in the preparation of many value-added products. Also, there exists vast diversity for mango peel colours. There have been many attempts on breeding of mango for the development of coloured varieties. This review would focus on some of the physical-chemical characterization and breeding aspects of the mango peel.
