Abstract. Aditya, Nugroho GD, Jauhar MF, Sunarto. 2018. Diversity of diurnal bird and bird potential as avitourism object in Mount Merbabu National Park, Central Java. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 5: 362-368. Mount Merbabu National Park (TNGMb) is one of two national parks land in Central Java province. Some problems due to mountaineering tourism such as garbage and forest fires need for the development of other tourism alternatives. Avitourism is one of tourism potential that can be developed with the economic benefits and conservation in TNGMb. This research was conducted on January-February 2018 which aims to determine the diversity of diurnal bird and bird potential as avitourism object in Mount Merbabu National Park. Observation of birds was performed using exploration method to explore the pathways. Data analysis using the diversity index, species richness index, equity index, similarity index, Simpson dominance index, and descriptive-correlative analysis. The result was 51 bird species included in 27 families with 3.13 diversity index value that belongs to the high diversity category. The potential of birds as avitourism objects was categorized into 7 species of raptors, 16 species of endemic birds, 12 species of high conservation status birds, 5 species of migrant birds, attractive color birds and nice sound birds. Selo resort is the most ideal resort to developed avitourism in TNGMb.
