Abstract

Recruitment and retention of staff is currently a hot topic within health care. From 2001, the Department of Health (2000) committed itself to expanding the NHS workforce by 6500 more allied health professionals (AHPs) by 2004, which means 40% more NHS-funded students entering occupational therapy education and the funding of 149 new pre-registration occupational therapy education places. The scope of the governments targets, however, is not clear.
