Abstract

Background: Rectal lesions can present to the emergency room in obstruction. Diversion stoma is necessary to allow neoadjuvant radiation or to avoid a lengthy surgery in a compromised patient. However, many a times, the colon is grossly dilated, and during the maturing of the stoma, faecal spillage can happen into the stoma wound or intraperitoneally. To avoid spillage, either you must do a controlled decompression or a formal laparotomy rather than a trephine. It will be excellent if we can do the stoma by trephine technique and still avoid faecal spillage.
