Abstract
In this issue of Neuron, Karnani etal. (2016) show that ensembles of specific types of inhibitory interneurons generate coordinated activity in mouse visual cortex. They also describe chemical and electrical synaptic mechanisms that may enable diverse interneuron ensembles to function as distinct operational units.
