Abstract

The building sector consumes more than one third of the total final energy in the world. In order to tackle this issue, new UBEMs (Urban Building Energy Modeller) are developed to simulate, analyse or optimise the energy consumption at building and district scale. Such tools are useful for decision makers and urban planners, for the design, retrofit or energy management of districts and their energy systems. This paper describes DIMOSIM (District MOdeller and SIMulator), a modular UBEM to design and optimize district energy concepts. Based on an object structure, this tool creates a district from a GIS-file, completes missing data, simulates the buildings, systems and occupancy under a given weather to finally assess the simulation outputs. Thanks to the modular structure, it can be coupled to other tools to broaden the applications, as the simulation of microclimate or the use of model predictive controllers to optimize the control of districts. Several case studies are proposed, illustrating various applications of DIMOSIM.
