Abstract

As system investment and energy costs continue to increase, more utilities are attempting to evaluate distribution transformer performance. Alternative methods of distribution trdnsformer loss evaluation are examined. The total levelized annual cost method is extended to properly account for conditions of energy cost inflation, load growth and transformer changeout. A method is suggested for possible industry standardization. The application of a standard method may aid in reducing the multiplicity of transformer designs required to optimize throughout the range of utility evaluations.
