Abstract
Reliability assessment of a distribution system is usually concerned with the system performance at the customer end, i.e. at the load points. The basic indices [1] normally used to predict the reliability of a distribution system are: load point failure rate, average outage duration and annual unavailability. The basic indices are important from an individual customer’s point of view but they do not provide an overall appreciation of the system performance. An additional set of indices can be calculated using these three basic indices and the number of customers/load connected at each load point in the system. Most of these additional indices are weighted averages of the basic load point indices. The most common additional or system indices [1] are; System Average Interrruption Frequency Index (SAIFI), System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), Customer Average Interruption Duration Index (CAIDI), Average Service Availability Index (ASAI), Average Service Unavailability Index (ASUI), Energy Not Supplied (ENS) and Average Energy Not Supplied (AENS).
