Abstract
Objective To obtain simple measuring and calculating methods for evaluation of the distribution of wind velocities and the ventilation rate in mine lanes. Methods Two methods were used in this study. First, the wind velocities were measured in different grids of a cross section of mine lane, and the ventilation rate was calculated by summation of the products of measured wind velocities timed the areas of corresponding grids. Secondly, the wind velocities were predicted with a mathematic model built from the meastrred wind velocities along the central vertical line, and the ventilation rate was integrated based on the model and geometric size of the cross section. Results The variations of wind velocities between the predicted and measured values at the 38 points ranged from-9.7% to 9.6%. The difference of ventilation rates calculated between the summation and the integral methods was only 1.1%. Conclusions The distribution of wind velocities in a cross section of mine lane can be predicated by an appropriate model built from the measurements of wind velocity along its central vertical line. The ventilation rate can be well estimated by the integral method based on the mathematic model of wind velocity. Key words: Mine lane; Wind velocity; Ventilation rate; Model; Integral
