Abstract

Background and Aims: ApoC-III is a multifunctional protein involved in atherosclerosis, thrombosis, hepatic steatosis and type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, which makes it a very useful biomarker. ApoC-III activity depends on the lipoprotein in which is transported as well as on the presence of post-translational modifications. These have been studied in whole plasma but rarely evaluated on individual lipoprotein fractions. We aim to prove that up to 7 ApoC-III glycoforms can be measured in each lipoprotein fraction (VLDL, IDL, LDL, HDL) in subjects with low apoC-III concentrations.
