Abstract

Evaluation of a new device which delivers small amounts of low viscosity liquids to the Fallopian tubes has been extended to trials of methylcyanoacrylate (MCA), a low viscosity tissue adhesive which polymerizes as it passes through the tube. This adhesive has been shown to cause tubal fibrosis by inducing a low grade inflammatory reaction while it is biodegraded and removed from the body. A seventy-five percent bilateral injection rate was achieved in fifty-six patients undergoing hysterectomy. When corrected for findings which would explain failure of injection into the tube, the bilateral success rate was eighty-nine percent. In three cases the MCA reached the tubal fimbria. The problems and potentials of the method are discussed.
